Artist Statement
My artistic practice centers around capturing quiet and joyful moments in life. Having anxiety and depression throughout my life, I’ve learned the importance of finding small spaces of calm and moments of happiness to help regulate my daily existence. This journey has transformed into a daily ritual—seeking peace in the little things and making it a point to experience at least one joyful moment every day.
Spinning my own yarn has become a vital part of this practice. It provides me with a grounding activity that helps to refocus my racing thoughts and calm my anxious mind. The tactile nature of the fibers allows me to connect deeply with my emotions, creating a sense of calm as I work.
Using this hand-spun yarn, I create abstract, colorful tapestries that aim to encapsulate these fleeting moments of peace. Each piece reflects my belief that imperfection is integral to growth. The yarn is never perfect, and I embrace the way it slips through my fingers, much like the fleeting thoughts and emotions I’m processing. This weaving not only represents my personal journey of healing and growth but also transforms chaotic feelings into something beautiful and meaningful.
In my work, I celebrate the messiness of life, expressing the importance of allowing space for emotions, processing, and ultimately, growth. Through my art, I invite others to share in this exploration, finding their own moments of joy and tranquility amidst the complexities of daily life.
